What happens next

  1. Conflict check. The party list is run against prior and current engagements before anything substantive is discussed.
  2. Scoping call. A direct call with the principal — not an intake coordinator — to define the technical question actually in dispute.
  3. Retention letter. Written scope, task-by-task budget estimate, rate schedule, and terms. No open-ended exposure.
  4. Evidence plan. If physical evidence is at risk, a preservation and inspection protocol is issued immediately, in parallel with the paperwork.

If evidence is at risk right now

  • Relay and meter event records are typically overwritten on a rolling buffer — capture them before anything else.
  • Do not energize, clean, disassemble, or scrap the failed equipment.
  • Photograph as-found conditions, including conductor terminations and arc damage, before removal.
  • Preserve maintenance records, test reports, and the existing arc flash or coordination study.
