An expert opinion carries the weight of the record behind it. This page lists the published work, standards development, and technical material that record consists of — the same list furnished to retaining counsel for Rule 26 disclosure, kept current here so it can be checked without asking.

Books & Book Chapters

Published
  • Book chapter · Lead author Fault Current LimitersCIGRE Green Book. Lead author of the chapter covering fault current limiting technology, its application to distribution and transmission systems, and the system-level consequences of installing it. Published by CIGRE, the International Council on Large Electric Systems.
  • Book chapter · Author High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC)The Power Grid. Author of the HVDC chapter, covering converter topology, control, and the role of DC transmission in modern grid architecture.

Standards & Code Development

Committees

Participation in writing the documents the industry is measured against — not merely applying them.

  • Voting member IEEE 1584 — IEEE Guide for Performing Arc-Flash Hazard Calculations. IEEE 1584 is the governing standard for calculating incident energy and arc flash boundaries; a direct role in the working group means a hand in how its equations, model limits, and application guidance are written and revised.
  • Founding member NFPA Technical Committee on Electrical Inspection Practices — NFPA 78 and NFPA 1078. Founding member of the committee responsible for the NFPA guide on electrical inspection methodology and the standard on professional qualifications for electrical inspectors.
  • Senior Member IEEE. Elevated membership grade requiring documented professional maturity and significant technical performance.

Inventions & Recognition

Product
  • Award · 2015 Plant Engineering Magazine Product of the Year — Electrical Safety. Awarded for an arc-flash mitigation device engineered at G&W Electric.
  • Inventions Solid-state circuit breaker · Absence-of-voltage tester · Voltage proving unit · Alternative busway testing method. Electrical safety and switching apparatus developed over the product-development years. Patent numbers and current status are supplied with the full curriculum vitae.

Open Technical Work

Public

Methods published in full, so the arithmetic is checkable by anyone — including opposing counsel’s expert.

Two public projects exist to put the underlying engineering on the record rather than behind an assertion:

  • Open derivations & calculators PowerEngCalc — worked derivations and calculators for arc flash incident energy, short-circuit current, transformer loading and thermal aging, cable ampacity, and protective coordination. The derivation is shown alongside every result, with the governing standard cited.
  • Study review & templates Arc Flash Files — automated review of an existing arc flash study, plus templates and reference material for electrical safety program documentation. Useful as a low-cost first pass before deciding whether a study needs a full expert review.

Publishing the derivations is deliberate. In litigation, a method that has been public and unchallenged for years is harder to characterize as result-driven than one that first appears in a Rule 26 report.
